Outbound team building is based on experiential learning pedagogy which believes that people learn better by doing tasks rather by sitting in a classroom environment. Concepts such as team building, communication, leadership are better understood when individuals are involved in action-oriented activities that require critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making. In outbound team building programs individuals and teams perform various activities in an outdoor environment which will help them derive an experience from the activity they engage in, share and reflect on the experience of the team, point out pitfalls, gaps or mistakes, arrive at strategies that could be best implemented as a team and transfer those skills and insight into real working environment.
It has been observed that things which were difficult to be learnt from a class room session was learnt easily through experiential learning. Individuals of the team are able to achieve change in behavior, attitude, and perspective in a non-offending manner through outbound team building programs. Other benefits of this program are: increased self confidence among team members, increased cohesiveness, effective communication, creative and critical thinking, effective time management, learning of new skills, making adjustments, recognizing opportunities and making effective use of them for the team's benefit.
