The first time I met my client, I was convinced that I was talking to someone who is deeply motivated to take his life to the next level called greatness. His accomplishments as a professional were a treat to listen to. His career being stable, he had the penchant to value add to whatever task he undertook. To sum up here was an epitome of success.
However, as we spoke about the vision and mission of his life, it became apparent that "normalcy" in his life is what challenged him through and through.
My role as a coach was to get my client look into avenues of self growth and create some new habits by moving him out of his comfort zone.
As we progressed in our deliberations, it became apparent that there were three specific areas which could help my client make substantial difference in his life
1. His relationship with his children
2. His willingness to innovate at workplace
3. His ability to stick to a fitness routine ( which was not the case despite several attempts)
Our journey through coaching has had its share of crests and troughs. It has been both exciting and challenging. While it was about good talk and easy to commit to goals in the beginning, we began realizing that one aspect clearly stood between the idea of the goal and the implementation of it – willingness to take actions!
As a coach, I had my own share of dilemmas. When do I use my powerful tools of encouragement and acknowledgement and when do I put my foot down and make powerful requests to my client to take action?
As time progressed, both of us subtly but surely did our part of the task. Today, I can reflect back and say that it has been a fantastic ride. We had our own share of Aha moments! We realized at the end of it that, we progress only when we follow through and treat every small battle like a full fledged war.
